Diego Rodriguez de Silva Velázquez, is a Spanish paintre born to Seville of 6th June 1599, becomes know in art with the name Diego Velazquez. With his personality and talent he enters between most famous painters of court of king Philip IV of Spain being a great portraitist representative of baroque epoch. Of origins he is the lawyer’ son Juan Rodriquez of nationality  Hebrew Portuguese  and of Jeronima Velasquez , that enters in class “ Hidalgo” a minor noble Spanish family , where he receives the elevated linguistic and philosophic study, but is noted of a big artistic talent. 

He studies , meditates, painting , his art of where start? 

He studies to atelier by Francisco Herrera il Vecchio , an energetic painter that hates Italian art. He enters in contact with painting by Francesco Pacheco, a mediocre painter without a particularity virtue.

Who is represented Velasquez , what influences has he in art?

In principal he represented a model , are inspired the painters as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, in particular Eduard  Manet which is attracted by his artistic movement, named realist, impressionist current. His style is a game of lights and shadows. He is characterized of” a pure decision power”. Velazquez remains a painter of court admired and appreciated in Spain, again is known in others country , but he remains always to disposition’s king Philip IV with 40 of portraits , in works are identified the knights, the soldiers, the religious, the buffoons  without forgot of famous poet Francisco di Quevedo. Looking his art he becomes curious  to lack female portraits, in change he painting the dwarfs , the buffoons from king’ service. The king Philip commissioning Velasquez to following the project of foundation to Academy of art in Spain , for that he is sent in Italy to buy the painters and the statues.

In that time the Spain is had riche in painters , but without the statues. 

With this occasion he studding the Italian painter buying the painters by Tintoretto, Tiziano and Veronese, again a series of statues which in time don’t accepted by catholic church because them nudity. In same time he painters the Pope Innocenzo X, a portrait of  big dimensions for that he been payed with a medal and gold chain. Rubens , admire him in time when been concession  the art works at Spanish court.

The last painter is” Weavers” , he die to Madrid in 6th August 1660, is bury in crypt of Fuensolida in the Saint John Baptist’s church . Fin in XIX century , the works of Velazquez remains few known out the Spain, with the year 1828 Sir David Wilkie in visit to Madrid writing of presence of new artistic phenomenon which having a big affinity with the  the School Britain ‘s portraits.

Pablo Picasso attributes him a cubist style” Las Meninas”. Salvador Dali appreciated him for the nuclear mysticism  how is incorporated into artistic theory. Francis Bacon commented the Pope Innocenzo X portrait , looking the expressionist painting with the capricious aspect.
