The lyric opera is complex, Giordano enters in her greatness for express him the artistic creation accenting the melodrama. He composes the opera in own artistic sense where the melodrama has primordial place being enriched by melody and in same time, he is innovative, qualitative and suggestive creating the theatre for give exuberance in works. Umberto Giordano is birth to Foggia on 28 August 1867 and is dead to Milan on 12 November 1948, has been a Italian composer. His compositions are notated at international level of opera being characterized by an accentuated sense of theatre. 

START IN MUSIC, HIS MUSICAL CHARACTERISTIC

The son of pharmacist Ludovico Giordano and Sabata  Scognamillo is guided to follow the career of sword master, in contrariety of this passion he has a big predilection for the music at that he enters in study.  The first lessons of pianoforte and solfeggio are studied with a family’s friend, a lover of music with the musical aptitude. Later he continues the studies with the teachers Luigi Gissi and Giuseppe Signorelli.

For study in profonde the music, for known him, for  his desire he subscribes to Conservatory from Naples under the studies from Paolo Serrao. The first opera has been” Marina” written in the year 1888 for a competition presented by Sonzogno Editorial Home where he is defeated by Pietro Mascagni with Rustic Cavalry.

From these 173 candidates subscribes at concurs he becomes known through the seventh place in artistic creation, motive for that Sonzogno commissioned him another opera for representation. The opera composes has been” Mala vita” written  on the textbook by Nicola Dospuro inspired from napolitana popular scenes in three acts wrote in 1889 by Salvatore of Giacomo and Goffredo Cognetti. It-s a drama in that a worker represented by principal personage search to safe a prostitute in change of healing by tuberculosis. The opere is more expressive being the beginning opera-melodrama. In the year 1892 it provokes certain scandal at Rome, after this is represented with big adhesions as author and admiration at Vienna, Berlin and Praga. Later in the year 1894 he enters in romantism with opera” Regina Diaz” on the notebook of Giovanni Targioni Tozzetti  and Guido Menasci, but at the end it remains a tentation complete  without success. He  transferring to Milan in the year 1896 comeback at artistic opera with the opera more know” Andrea Chenier” subject of French poet having same name on the notebook wrote by Luigi Illica. Yet , he enters in admiration and success. It’s  his time, the talent makes him famous! In 1898 he composes the opera” Fedora” represented with success, followed of opera ”  Siberia” in the year 1903 presented in triumph at  Theatre Scala of Milan , to Palermo he enters with opera ” Mese Mariano” , to New York he is known at Metropolitan in 1924 under direction of Arturo Toscanini with opera ” Sans – Gene” follows by works ”La cena”, ”Della  Baffe” and ”Regele”. Through the compositions he writes the vocal pieces, short popular compositions and symphonies. Giordano belong to melodrama-opera characterized of a strong sense of innovative theatre in melodic line with the incisive accent, riche and generous in same time spontaneous, efficacy and suggestive in rapidity through compositional theme. For to be updated in time with musical evolutions, he begins to enrich own musical language with the new musical styles. His principal characteristic is theatral scene introduced in opera associated with orchestral part. Ha has a dramatic, exuberant talent with the fluidity in pieces. The music is animated, vivacity, tumultuous, riche by dynamic power and color. The compositions have an intime, passional part, the accents are wide of youthfulness, intensity and pathetic. In opera are present the innovative characters in vocal plane and recitative efficacity. The French critic under direction of Alfred Bruneau recognises him the worth of opera-s composer ” Andrea Chénier” writing in paper ” Le Matin”: „ Joining in Chénier and in Siberia the truth at ideal , Giordano has risen much surpassing the colleagues , if Puccini which I appreciate hold  the youth grace and expressive fascination, Giordano has the tragic power, the orchestral energy and expressive effect…” He is dead to Milan the 12 November 1948. In his memory to Foggia is dedicated the music Conservatory, Communal Theatre and a place where are exposes in statues the composer and his principal personages of works. To Milan and Turin in his name is named a street or a place.

The opera season 2017-2018 which being represented at Theatre Scala of Milano has been inaugurated with Umberto Giordano’s opera” Andrea Chénier” guided by Riccardo Chailly.  Giordano makes part from melodrama- opera composers; innovative, traverses the career in success at international level. His expression is drama with the intime themes, passional written on the melodic line riche by a dynamic power and color. The work is theatral, suggestive, they being the principal characteristic of artist but in same time they are orchestrated with attention. He amplifies the sonority, exalt the vocal and choral plane, the accents are passional wide of youthfulness and corrugated stamped in harmony. In the work he has a balance evolution, the melodic expression is associated at energy and orchestral vigor searching always to enriches his musical language. Original, dramatic he leaves the harmony in artistic opera.
